The Berthoud Bugle: When God Says No

Volume 2022: Edition 7

Food for thought: Why Does God Say "No"?

Hello everyone, and welcome back. We are slowly getting back into the swing of things, so thank you for your continued patience. We appreciate you coming back for the update this week and month as we continue to grow and study His word.

As children, it is difficult often times to hear "No". There are things we think we need or want that our parents say "No" to and this can be frustrating. So, we throw a tantrum and become angry or sad. We think things like: "Well Sarah's parents got her that Toy, why can't I have it?", "I'm old enough to know what I need", "My Parents just don't love me". The same happens when we pray to our Heavenly Father and ask Him for things that He may say "No" or "Not yet" to. We pray for healing, for that dream job, for love, for that house you were looking at, etc., but He may not have answered you how you were expecting. We can easily get caught up in our anger and sorrow for having been given the answer of "No" or "Not yet" and turn away from God and ask "Why?", but God, like any parent, Loves us regardless.

He loves us so deeply that He gave His only son to save us. He would give anything to have us, but sometimes what we're asking for is not good for us, it's not the right time for it yet, or maybe He has something better in mind for us. Maybe we lack faith or humility? Are we asking God while not believing in His Power to do what we are asking for? Are we asking Him as a spoiled child would, expectant of the result we think we need and being angry towards His answer? He's a father who knows exactly what we need and when we need it, and He wants to prepare us for His blessings and shower us in His love. He provides for us in every way in the right way. Everything He does is for our good, our benefit, and the greatest outlook of our future. He has many plans for us and sometimes what we want isn't what we need or what will benefit us and the plan He has to prosper and nourish our souls. He always has the best in mind for us, so though we may want to run and be angry at His answer, we have to be open to His answer in His time and not turn our backs to Him even when He says "No" or "Not yet". Because He always has so much more to offer us than we may know or expect if we continue to be patient and persistent in our Faith and in our prayers to Him. Just some food for thought...

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope"

(Jeremiah 29:11)

"But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand."

(Isaiah 64:8)

"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights."

(Proverbs 3:11-12)

"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

(Matthew 6:26)

Weekly Devotional:

God Provides What We Need

God has promised to meet all your needs according to His glorious riches. Your deepest, most constant need is for His peace. He has planted peace in the garden of your heart, where He lives, but there are weeds growing there too: Pride, worry, selfishness, unbelief. God is the gardener, and He is working to rid your heart of those weeds. He does His work in various ways. When you sit quietly with Him, He shines the light of His presence directly into your heart. In this heavenly light, peace grows abundantly, and weeds shrivel up. He also sends trials into your life. When you trust Him in the midst of trouble, peace flourishes and weeds die away. Thank Him for troublesome situations; the peace they can produce far outweighs the trials you endure.

"For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody."
