Food for thought: Engage in God's Word

Hello everyone, and welcome back. We are slowly getting back into the swing of things, so thank you for your continued patience. We appreciate you coming back for the update this week and month as we continue to grow and study His word.

God's word is the lamp unto our feet. It is a guide for us to live our lives by, and our basic instructions before leaving earth (hence the acronym: BIBLE). That is why it is important for us to engage in His word completely. It is not enough for us to read the bible. He has called us to listen to His words and take them to heart, meaning that we are to study His word. The only true way to study, as we have all learned as past and present students, is to take time to engage; to ask questions, take notes, talk about it with peers, or to even plan a presentation for others on what you have learned.

He wants us to not only read his word, but to practice it and share it with others. His word is full of laws, history, wisdom/ advice, prophecies, songs, gospels, poetry, parables, and letters; everything an avid reader could wish to read. It is a library of knowledge all in one book (A.K.A. an anthology). So, engage in His word. Get a good study bible, get a devotional, dedicate a notebook to your notes and questions, get some highlighters, get some post-its, and find a spot to spend time in everyday because there is a lifetime worth of knowledge and wisdom packed into the 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,102 verses of the Bible. Just some food for thought...

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,"

(2 Timothy 3:16)

"These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead"

(Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God."

(Colossians 3:16)

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."

(James 1:5)

Weekly Devotional:

Experience God's Goodness

Taste and see that God is good. The more intimately you experience Him, the more convinced you become of His goodness. He is the living One who sees you and longs to participate in your life. God is training you to find Him in each moment and to be a channel of His loving presence. Sometimes His blessings come to you in mysterious ways: through pain and trouble. At such times you can know His goodness only through your trust in Him. Understanding will fail you, but trust will keep you close to Him.

Thank God for the gift of His peace, a gift of such immense proportions that you cannot fathom its depth or breadth. When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, it was Peace that He communicated first of all. He knew this was their deepest need: to calm their fears and calm their fears and clear their minds. He also speaks peace to you, for He knows your anxious thoughts. Listen to Him. Tune out the other voices so that you can hear Him more clearly. God designed you to dwell in Peace all day, every day. Draw near to Him; receive His peace.

(Genesis 16:13-14)

"Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you."

(John 20:19)

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful."

(Colossians 3:15)
